Further information received from Katherine Knight in Australia 19 May 2010 about her great grandfather, enabling completion of all details: "James Craig Giffen (Reg No. 3883) was my great-grandfather, he was born 18/02/1880 in Strathaven, Lanarkshire to John & Margaret Giffen (nee Craig).

He enlisted in the Cameron Highlanders in 1897. He married Robina Birkens in Inverness in 1904. They subsequently had six children (three born in Inverness - one my grandfather William, one born in Aldershot and two born in India). After his death his widow emigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1919.

The WWI timeline I have for him (as sketchy as it is):

29/06/15 - Awarded Military Cross
