Gordon Family

Three sons of Alexander and Lily Gordon of 'Clashmugach' Dornoch were killed in World War 1 and 2. Alexander and Lily had ten children, 5 sons and 5 daughters.

Their second eldest son Robert, b 1894, serving as a Lance Corporal with the Highland Light Infantry was killed on 1 October 1918 and is buried in Sequehart British Cemetery No 2 France. He is commemorated on the Dornoch War Memorial.

Their second youngest son, Private William Logan Gordon, b 1911, died of wounds on 16 May 1940 whilst serving with the Seaforth Highlanders and is buried in the Chambieres National Cemetery, Metz, France. With his young wife Isabella he lived in Rosehall where he was employed as a postman and he is commemorated on Rosehall War Memorial.

Their youngest son Gunner George, b 1913, a school teacher in Skerray, Tongue, died on 28 August 1943 as a prisoner of war of the Japanese while working on the Burma-Siam railway. He is commemorated on both the Dornoch and Skerray War Memorials.
